Hello all,
As you know, the LSST SWG will meet on the phone this Thursday,
starting at 2 PM Eastern. Our three meetings to date (face-to-face
meetings in October and January, and a telecon in November) have been
mostly broad discussions of science that an LSST would enable; we've
been rather loose on the details of exactly what we want to do, and
what we will need to carry it out. I want to spend this phonecon
making specific assignments for developing and writing up these
science cases, with an eye to the Design Reference Mission we keep on
talking about. My hope is that our face-to-face meeting in Tucson on
March 18 and 19 can be a working meeting, where we refine the science
programs we develop, quantify the requirements, and see if we can mesh
them into a common observing plan. Thus the meeting on Thursday will
be getting us started in this direction.

So let us plan to discuss this approach, and assign work, at this
upcoming meeting. A few specific people I would like to hear from:
Nick Kaiser and/or Dave Jewitt: I understand that a similar
exercise was undergone for Pan-Starrs. Could you tell us the details?
Chris Stubbs: You had promised some thoughts on the strawman plan I
had distributed earlier, in particular on the question of whether
one can make it all fit together.
Al Harris and/or David Morrison: Quite a lot has been happening on
the tsunami front; perhaps you can briefly bring us up to date.

So come to the meeting with your thoughts on how to get specific.
If you can't attend the meeting (or even if you can!), please post
your thoughts to this mailing list, to give us something to chew on.
In particular, Peter Garnavich tells me that he has thought fairly
hard about the supernova problem.

Any further suggestions for the meeting, please let me and the
mailing list know.

  Again, the call-in information is:
Thursday, February 20, 2 PM Eastern
   USA Toll Free Number: 888-576-4902
USA Toll Number: +1-630-395-0041 (for people calling overseas)

   LEADER: DR SIDNEY WOLFF

			      See you then!
