Rob Simcoe (a Princeton student) and I have just finished a very
successful half night's remote observing with DIS using Remark
via the backup SLIP/modem connection. Due to both local (at
Princeton) and remote (at Las Cruces, I think) network problems,
we could not connect via the net.

Everything went very smoothly (no disconnects or other problems),
and the change was entirely user transparent after a SLIP setup
on our local Mac which took maybe 60 seconds.

I strongly suggest using this backup route when the net is down
or flakey. Any sites that have still not implemented this
capability should strongly consider doing so.
