		REVISED ARC 3.5M SCHEDULE FOR 2ND QUARTER 2003
			     E. TURNER 5/5/03

			NOTES: ***PLEASE READ***

	5/5/03 Note - Various trades and "pay backs" are recorded in this
	revised schedule. Also, the night of June 15 (both halves) has been
	declared OPEN. Anyone wishing to use it should send me a request
	ASAP.

	3/28/03 NOTE - CU01/CU04 trade; no other changes.

	Except in cases where strong science drivers dictate otherwise
	(a minority of cases), observing time has again been scheduled
	in half night blocks. In fact, all currently scheduled science
	programs for this quarter are in half night blocks.

	Scheduled engineering time for this quarter consists of 4 nights
	of routine maintenance (EN01), or 4.4% of the total available time,
	and a "mini-shutdown" of 5 nights (EN02), or 5.5% of the total
	available time, for work on the enclosure shutter mechanism.

	As in the last 2 quarters, in addition to EN01 time, small blocks
	(10-15 min) of engineering time will be inserted into scheduled
	science nights on an unscheduled basis to obtain S-H collimation
	data on the telescope.

	In addition to scheduled engineering time, science observations
	may be pre-empted, sometimes on short notice, for urgent
	engineering tasks. Such tasks include both work that is required
	to safeguard observatory personnel or facilities and that allows
	"hot pursuit" of some significant problem.

	Please see links off of the APO home page (http://www.apo.nmsu.edu/)
	for a web based interactive version of this schedule.

	-----
	EN Note: No science observations scheduled during EN time.
	-----
	EN01 = EN01 Gill ? O
		Routine periodic engineering and projects time.
	EN02 = EN02 Gill ? O
		Enclosure shutter mechanism preventive maintenance.

	-----

	-----
	CU Note: 100% of nominal share scheduled. For the three programs
	undecided about remote/on-site observing, please decide and make
	the appropriate arrangements as far in advance as possible to assure
	on-site housing, if needed.
	-----
	CU01 = CU01 Stoc D ? (HR,MB)
	CU02 = CU02 Ball G/S ?
		Please specify SPIcam filters. Unclear why late May bright
		time was not usable. Much of indicated preferred date range
		is dark.
	CU03 = CU03 Mors E R
	CU04 = CU04 Hear G/S ?
		Please specify SPIcam filters.
	CU05 = CU05 Wilk E R

	-----
	JHU Note: 100% of nominal share scheduled, including one half
	night of flexibility time assigned to JH01.
	-----
	JH01.S = JH01 Zhen S/G R
	JH01.D = JH01 Zhen D R (medium, high)
	JH02 = JH02 Uomo D R (low)
	JH03 = JH03 Wyse D R (medium)
		Only one of the requested two nights scheduled due to low
		priority and very restrictive constraints to most over
		subscribed part of the quarter.
	JH04 = JH04 Glaz E O
		TOO program, not scheduled. List of observers is out of
		date; please update.

	-----
	NMSU Note: 96% of nominal share scheduled. One half night of
	flexibility time added to NM05 and one half night of UC time
	added to NM03 to compensate PI for TOO interupt in 1Q2003.
	-----
	NM01 = NM01 Gold S R
		Special protection for parallel observations.
	NM02 = NM02 Ande G O
	NM03 = NM03 Moor D/S R (MR,LB)
	NM04 = NM04 Osbo D R (high)
	NM05 = NM05 Nitt S O
	NM06 = NM06 Gold S R
		Not scheduled due to low priority and restrictive scheduling
		constraints.
	NM07 = NM07 Holt E R?

	-----
	PU Note: 100% of requested time scheduled; no request for 2 bright
	half nights.
	-----
	PU01 = PU01 Bowe D R (low)
	PU02 = PU02 Stra D R (high)
	PU03 = PU03 Henn D R (low)
	PU04 = PU04 Turn S O
	PU05 = PU05 Stra D R (low)
	PU06 = PU06 Stra S/G R

	-----
	UC Note: 100% of nominal share scheduled. One half night
	transferred to NM03 from UC08 as compensation for a 1Q2003
	TOO interupt.
	-----
	UC01 = 425 Lamb D/E R
		TOO program, not scheduled.
	UC02 = 417 Carl S R
	UC03 = 419 Frie D R (MR,LB)
	UC04 = 418 Wolf G R
	UC05 = 423 York S/D/E/G R
		No instructions for scheduling the "extra" bright half, so
		done without restrictions.
	UC06 = 424 York D R (high)
		Please inform Obs Specialist in advance if you need unusual
		central wavelengths (tilts) for the target spectral lines.
	UC07 = 421 Frie D R (MR,LB)
	UC08 = 420 Kron D R (high)
	UC09 = 426 York FabPer O
	UC10 = 422 York S/G/D/E R
		Adler Planetarium twilight program (not accounted to UC).
		Use instrument mounted for the night's first program.
		Requested Jan time not scheduled due to late arrival of
		the request.

	-----
	UW Note: 100% of nominal share scheduled.
	-----
	UW01 = UW01 Seth S R
		Why is Paul Hodge listed as "untrained observer"?
	UW02 = UW02 Yoac D R (high)
		Scheduling constraints are unclear: What defines a "group"

	+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
	MOST PROGRAMS ARE SCHEDULED IN HALF NIGHT BLOCKS. THE FIRST HALF OF
	EACH NIGHT EXTENDS FROM -12 DEGREE EVENING TWILIGHT UNTIL 0000 MST
	OR 0100 MDT. THE SECOND HALF FOLLOWS UNTIL -12 DEGREE MORNING
	TWILIGHT.

	FIRST HALF IS INDICATED BELOW AS "A"; THE SECOND, AS "B".

        THIS QUARTER ONLY TWO PROGRAMS USE NON-BLOCK SCHEDULING.
        THESE PROGRAMS ARE INDICATED IN PARENTHESES () ON THE SCHEDULE
        AND THEIR TIME ALLOTMENTS ARE LISTED HERE:
	PU04 = 30 MIN BEFORE -12 DEGREE MORNING TWILIGHT EACH TIME SCHEDULED.
	UC10 = 60 MIN BEFORE EVENING -12 DEGREE TWILIGHT EACH TIME SCHEDULED.

	INSTRUMENT CHANGE TIMES ARE NOT INCLUDED BELOW BUT WILL BE INDICATED
	IN THE SCHEDULE ISSUED FROM APO AND WILL BE SHARED BETWEEN ADJOINING
	PROGRAMS AS USUAL.
