Due to worse than expected weather last night (see log for details) and the need for an adjustment to the collimation (and thus also the pointing model), Wednesday night will be needed for engineering work and will not be available for science operations as hoped/expected. Also the weather forecast appears to be deteriorating, and it is possible that Thursday and even Friday will be needed for engineering as well. I now have a substantial oversubscription of requests for the OPEN time even if all three nights had turned out to be available, so there is little point in sending me any more. I will continue to monitor the situation closely and will try to assign science programs to any available time on Thursday or Friday (Aug 30-31) at least 24 hours in advance (if possible). Those who have requested time, please monitor your email accordingly. I apologize for any inconvenience due to this at least partly "false alarm" offer of OPEN time, but those of you who are familiar with the difficulty of predicting the time required to "finish up" a major engineering effort, to say nothing of the weather in a Southwest US monsoon season, will understand, I am sure.
