The calibration lamps can now be controlled remotely by the
astronomer. Control is via a web page. The URL is
http://lampswitch35m.apo.nmsu.edu. This page can also be reached via
the "Calibration Lamp Control" link on the APO Instruments web page.

Observers will still need to ask the observing specialist to close the
mirror covers and open the instrument port cover.

A note on operation of the lamps -

When you connect to the lamp control web page, a window will pop up
asking for a username and password. Use "visitor1" with the visitor1
password. To turn on a lamp, click on the outlet icon next to the
name of the lamp (you can also click on the corresponding outlet in
the plugstrip image at the top of the page). This will take you to a
page for that lamp. Pull down the menu under "action" and select
"ON", then click apply. To turn the lamp off select "OFF" and click
apply. Leave the section of the page under "Configuration Setting"
alone. You can have multiple lamps turned on at the same time
(e.g. He, Ne, and Ar). Note - only one user can be connected to the
lamp control page at a time.

happy observing,

Karen G.
