The Q4 2007 APO 3.5m schedule is attached, and also available on the web
in the usual place. Please note that NIC-FPS will not be scheduled in Q4
until after October 19. If you want to request the bright OPEN time in
early October, you must use an instrument other than NIC-FPS.

ARC 3.5M SCHEDULE FOR 4th QUARTER 2007
S.Hawley, R.McMillan 9/7/07
NOTES: ***PLEASE READ***
Except in cases where strong science drivers dictate otherwise
(a minority of cases), observing time has again been scheduled
in half night blocks.
There are 92 nights, or 184 half nights, in 4Q2007. Scheduled
engineering time consists of 8 nights, or 16 half nights, all
bright, comprising 8.7% of the total and including instrument
engineering for NICFPS etalon testing and Triplespec initial
commissioning. DD time consists of 12 half nights, representing
6.5% of the total. Computing 184 - 16 - 12 leaves 156 half
nights for allocation by the institutions, which break down
as 54B, 29G and 73D.
In addition to scheduled engineering time, science
observations may be pre-empted, sometimes on short notice, for
urgent engineering tasks. Such tasks include both work that
is required to safeguard observatory personnel or facilities
and that allows "hot pursuit" of some significant problem.
Please see links off of the APO home page (http://www.apo.nmsu.edu/)
for a web based interactive version of this schedule.
There are 4 half-nights of OPEN time and 3 half-nights of
unscheduled DD04 time in the 9/7/07 version of the schedule.

MOST PROGRAMS ARE SCHEDULED IN HALF NIGHT BLOCKS. THE FIRST
HALF OF EACH NIGHT EXTENDS FROM SUNSET UNTIL 0105 MDT OR 0005
MST. THE SECOND HALF FOLLOWS UNTIL SUNRISE.
FIRST HALF IS INDICATED BELOW AS "A"; THE SECOND, AS "B".
THIS QUARTER FIVE PROGRAMS USE NON-BLOCK SCHEDULING.
INSTRUMENT CHANGE TIMES ARE NOT INCLUDED BELOW BUT WILL BE INDICATED
IN THE SCHEDULE ISSUED FROM APO AND WILL BE SHARED BETWEEN ADJOINING
PROGRAMS AS USUAL.
