Star party 2014 Sep 17, Broadmead.
Stadion lights were on, sky was pretty bright.
We used the Vixen 4 inch telescope, and found Saturn in the dusk sky.
We clearly saw the ring, and some of us saw its moon, Titan.
We moved our new 18 inch Dobsonian telescope to this remote part of the
field, and also observed Saturn at higher magnification (120x). We
clearly saw the ring, Titan, and Rhea on the other side of Saturn.
Please see the
relevant finder chart .
- We covered the basic constellations.
- Observed M13: grand globular cluster in Hercules.
- Observed M57: the ring nebula
- We observed M31, the Andromeda Galaxy, and its companion galaxy. We
used both small telescope (binoculars) and the large Dobsonian for
this.
- We saw Albireo, the bright binary star, the head of Cygnus, the swan.
- We observed epsilon 1,2 Lyrae, a quadruple star.
- We had a crash course on photography, and took a couple of photos of
Andromeda Galaxy, and our group.
