Hello all,
  Check out:
ftp://ftp.astro.princeton.edu/strauss/LSST/DRM.ps
ftp://ftp.astro.princeton.edu/strauss/LSST/DRM.pdf

This now includes in its 64 pages completed chapters describing each of
the major LSST science goals, thanks to hard work from lots of members
of the SWG. Now is the time for a close reading by all the members of
the SWG. In particular, the variability chapter is completely revamped
(and some of the material on novae has now been moved to Galactic structure),
the weak lens chapter has been worked on substantially, and the supernova
chapter is essentially brand-new. There are still a handful of bold-face
comments/questions in these last two chapters that need addressing; I would
appreciate your help on all this.

  So what's next?

-I would like all members of the SWG to read over what exists, and let me
know if there are corrections/additions/etc needed. In particular, if you
can give me answers to the remaining bold-face comments, that would be great.

-I will be writing a few brief concluding chapters: a list of other science
that LSST can accomplish, a description of how it all fits together, a list
of major to-do's and concerns, etc. Anyone who would like to help me on that
is most welcome to do so!

-I would like to include as appendices writeups on the DMT and Pan-STARRS.
My default would be to use the papers published in the SPIE meeting proceedings
in Hawaii in August 2002, but they may be out of date. Tony, Nick, can you
suggest something better, and if not, send me the raw materials for those
chapters?

-Finally, we as a group should go through a formal process of approving
this document for submission to the NSF. I hope to schedule a meeting for
this in the next few weeks
(by phone); keep your eyes open.

OK, give me all your feedback, and let me know what you think.

				Many thanks,
				Michael Strauss
