Hello all,
Let me give a quick run-down on where things stand on the various chapters
of the document:
NEO's: Al Harris tells me that now October has started, he has time to work
on a revision and expansion of what is currently in place. He has asked
David Morrison for input on the impact hazards section: David, are you in
contact with Al about this?
KBO's: Gary Bernstein has sent me a revised version from that which you've
seen, with a new figure and somewhat modified text. Alan Stern and Dave Jewittt
I believe have signed off on this (correct me if I'm wrong!).
Galactic structure: Knut Olsen, Dave Monet, and Dennis Zaritsky have just
sent me a "final" version. (They put the quotes around "final" :-). I want
to do a little light editing, but otherwise, it is basically done.
The variable universe: Fiona Harrison is working on a revision and expansion
of the section that is currently in the DRM. Input from the rest of the SWG
on the whole variable universe section (which is currently in several parts
from different sources) would be very welcome. Chris, I am especially
eager to hear from you.
Supernovae: There were howls of protest to the notion of dropping this
as a science driver. Peter Garnavich is working on a draft; he sent
me an outline last week. Peter, perhaps you should post the outline
to lsst-general (together with a note saying how the main text is
progressing).
Weak lensing: Tony Tyson has promised an expansion of the section
that currently exists (written by Daniel Eisenstein), both giving more
about the requirements that weak lensing science puts on the type of
data we get, and fleshing out the science case. Daniel, your input on
the next iteration would be very valuable.
I hope to get a few more of these revisions in progress in hand in
the next few days, and will post a next draft of the entire document
to everybody early next week. In the meantime, please send in your
comments/corrections/offers to write/etc.
Many thanks,
Michael Strauss
