ABSTRACT
The Spitzer Space Telescope: New Views of the Cosmos
The Spitzer Space Telescope was launched in August, 2003 and dedicated to Princeton's Lyman Spitzer at the time of
the first data release in December, 2003. Spitzer's on orbit performance exceed
expectations, and shows that the observatory has unprecedented capabilities
for infrared exploration. A selection of spectra and images from early Spitzer
observations will be discussed during the talk to show that Spitzer will lead
to major advances in our understanding of astrophysical problems.
