ABSTRACT

Early Results from the Spitzer Space Telescope

The first observing programs being executed by the Spitzer Space Telescope include multi-color surveys of the mid- and far-infrared sky. The Chandra Deep Field South survey with a depth close to the confusion limit and a shallower survey of the NOAO Deep Wide Field are used to examine number counts, x-ray correlations, and preliminary looks at optical identifications. Other categories of early observations include nearby galaxies whose study is relevant to a detailed understanding of infrared emission mechanisms in galaxies.
