DATE REPORT WAS MADE: 3 April 1996
TELESCOPE: 3.5 meter
PI: Christopher Garasi
PROJECT TITLE: Near-IR obsv. of Galaxy Clusters
OBSERVERS: M. Ledlow, J. Burns, D. Thilker
INSTRUMENT(S): GRIM2
OBSERVING DATES & HOURS: March 26th 0:00 - 5:00 MST
REMOTE OR ON SITE? Remote
OBSERVING SPECIALIST: Dan Long
WEATHER CONDITIONS: 3/26: Occaisional thin cloud cover; Clouds cleared off
completely after 3:00 am MST. Foucs showed 1 arsecond seeing although it
varied up to 1.5 arcsec over the night sky.
SUCCESS OF RUN (IN PERCENTAGE): 75%
We were unable to obtain J & K' images of both A1650 & A1795 (J& K' A1795, K' A1650);
TIME LOST DUE TO WEATHER (IN PERCENTAGE): 0%
TIME LOST DUE TO EQUIPMENT FAILURE (IN PERCENTAGE): 0%.
TIME LOST FOR OTHER REASONS (E.G., INEXPERIENCE) (IN PERCENTAGE): 5%.
(described below)
DESCRIPTION OF OTHER PROBLEMS, IF ANY:
1) It appears that automatic FTP of data from APO to another machine
will not work with Dan Long's dither script. Since the script is run outside of Remark, the computer does not automatically FTP the data.
2) It also appears that if there is a "hiccup" in the network, the Remark
interface will completely freeze until all of the current data has been
FTP'd over to your machine. This happened twice during the night, the first
time we recovered, the second time, the MC just died.
DESCRIPTION OF EQUIPMENT PROBLEMS, IF ANY:
DESCRIPTION OF POSITIVE EXPERIENCES, IF ANY:
OTHER COMMENTS:
I'd very much like to see some modifications to Dan Long's dither script
to incorporate random dither shifts where the user can specify the number of
shifts and the number of exposures at that shift. Also, I'd like Dan Long's
Dither script in Remark so that the data can automatically be FTP'd.
