Subject: GRB - 12/22 (and beyond?) schedule changes

From: elt@astro.Princeton.EDU

Message number: 13 (previous: 12, next: 14 up: Index)

The NM07 time scheduled for tonight (12/22) is pre-empted for DD01
observations of a newly discovered and well localized GRB that is
nicely placed for afterglow observations. In addition, PU01 will
limit its observations to obtaining a couple of g' and r' images
of the primary target, 2237+0305, and will then turn over any
remaining PU01 time to DD01. Diercks and/or Deutsch will observe
for DD01 using SPIcam. (Alan/Eric: Please get in touch with Karen,
who will be the OS first half tonight, or others at the site about
which filters you want and to verify the status of SPIcam which
was reported to be having tachnical problems in last night's log.)

*In addition*, this message is to serve as a warning that the following
dates/programs *might* be pre-empted for further observations of this
GRB's afterglow depending on the results of tonight's APO observations
and other developments:
12/23 NM07
12/24 NM07
12/25 JH03
12/26 UC01
All potentially affected PIs and observers for these programs should
"stayed tuned" for further info.

Any program losing time will be compensated to the best of our ability
at a future date. UC01 is in a specially protected status as a critical
thesis project observation and will only be pre-empted if the scientific
justification is unusually strong.

This message is being sent to apo35-grb@astro.princeton.edu, techstaff
and all affected and potentially affected PIs and observers. Please
note that apo35-grb can be used to communicate with a group of ARC
people (listed on the APO archives web pages) who are interested in
following our GRB chases.

Cheers and good hunting,

Ed Turner

PS - This is GRB981220...just so we are all on the same page.
