This message is to announce the availability of NICFPS, the Near Infrared Camera and Fabry Perot Spectrometer built by the University of Colorado, for shared risk science operations on the APO 3.5m during Q1 2005. Shared risk means that if the instrument needs additional engineering or commissioning work, your observing time may be pre-empted to accommodate that work. Also there is no guarantee about data quality during shared risk time. Feedback to the instrument team about your observations will be very helpful. The Colorado instrument team will be helping to support the observations during Q1 2005, and to facilitate that help we will schedule NICFPS on the telescope only during three 1-week blocks of time (one week per month during bright time). The actual amount of time allocated will depend on the number of proposals received. Proposers should submit applications on the usual form through their institutional scheduling process, and the time will be assigned as part of the normal institutional bright time. The instrument capabilities are (or soon will be) described on the NICFPS instrument page, available through the APO homepage at http://www.apo.nmsu.edu. The Colorado NICFPS website, which contains more detailed instrument information, is located at http://nicfps.colorado.edu. We expect to have TUI operational to run NICFPS remotely by the time the Q1 2005 observations begin.
