I am pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Suzanne Hawley from the University of Washington as the next Director of the ARC 3.5-m telescope. Suzanne will be closely working with Ed Turner for the remainder of 2004. It is anticipated that her official appointment will become effective January 1, 2005. Ed will stay on as Director until that time, completing his third 3-year term. Ed Turner's many contributions to ARC and the 3.5-m telescope were acknowledged during the dinner celebration at APO in last week's 10th anniversary of the 3.5-m dedication. It was a pleasure to see many of you there, including those who contributed so much in the early years to turn the vision of a consortium operated, modern telescope into reality. Suzanne is very enthusiastic about working closely with Jon Holtzman, the instrument scientist, and the APO staff and user community to further improve our facility and help planning for the next decade. Please welcome her aboard.
