Subject: DIS grating configuration designations

In all future quarters, please specify DIS grating configurations 
*explicitly* in terms of both color (R and B) and dispersion (L, M or H 
for low, medium or high).  So, a typical configuration might look like
RM+BL or RH+BH.  The use of "nicknames" such as "low" (which has been used 
by some to mean RM+BL) or "set #1" can be confusing and is needlessly 
ambiguous.  Changing DIS gratings, especially during the night, is not a 
quick or easy job and a miscommunication on this issue can easily lead to 
lost observing time.

For 4Q2003 programs, if you have not designated your DIS grating 
preferences explicitly, as per the above, please inform the relevant OS by 
email at least 48 hrs before your scheduled observations.
