MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT: Workshop on the LARGE-APERTURE MIRROR ARRAY
(LAMA) Project and its possible involvement with the ASTROPHYSICAL
RESEARCH CONSORTIUM (ARC) at Apache Point, New Mexico

DATE/TIME AND PLACE: Wednesday, 8 January at 5:10 to 7 pm, in the
"Douglas Room" in the Sheraton Hotel adjoining the AAS meetings in
Seattle

CONTEXT: The Large-Aperture Mirror Array (LAMA) Project has
expressed interest in installing and operating large liquid-mirror
telescopes at the Apache Point Observatory, starting as early as this
year. Proposed mirror sizes range from 6 to 12 meters diameter.
Detailed information on the LAMA project can be found at
http://www.astro.ubc.ca/lmt/lama/

The ARC Board of Governors has recently voted unanimously in favor of
exploring possible involvement and/or collaboration between present
and future ARC science projects at Apache Point and the LAMA project.
For those of you involved with ARC or LAMA and interested in the
possibilities, you are invited to attend this informal workshop at
the time and venue above. There will be a brief presentation on the
LAMA project, followed by a general discussion of collaborative
possibilities.

If you have questions about this meeting, contact Bruce Gillespie
today or this weekend at APO (505-437-6822, gillespi@apo.nmsu.edu) or
