REVISED ARC 3.5M SCHEDULE FOR 4TH QUARTER 2002
E. TURNER 10/8/02
NOTES: ***PLEASE READ***
10/8 NOTE - Various trades and changes implemented affecting
NM03, NM04, PU06, PU07, UC01, UW04 and UW10. The
possible additional engineering shutdown for mirror
washing on 10/23-25 is NOT reflected in this schedule.
9/18 NOTE - Correction of a typo affecting only UW04 and UW10.
Except in cases where strong science drivers dictate otherwise
(a minority of cases), observing time has again been scheduled
in half night blocks. In fact, all currently scheduled science
programs for this quarter are in half night blocks.
Scheduled engineering time for this quarter consists of 6 nights
of routine maintenance (EN01) or 6.5% of the total available time.
SOMETHING NEW - In addition to EN01 time, small blocks (15-30 min,
most likely) of engineering time will be inserted into scheduled
science nights on an unscheduled basis to obtain S-H collimation
data on the telescope. The justification and details of this
engineerng project will be announced separately.
In addition to scheduled engineering time, science observations
may be pre-empted, sometimes on short notice, for urgent
engineering tasks. Such tasks include both work that is required
to safeguard observatory personnel or facilities and that allows
"hot pursuit" of some significant problem.
There is no OPEN time in the current schedule.
Please see links off of the APO home page (http://www.apo.nmsu.edu/)
for a web based interactive version of this schedule.
-----
EN Note: No science observations scheduled during EN time.
-----
EN01 = EN01 Gill ? O
Routine periodic engineering and projects time.
-----
DD Note: Director's Discretionary Time (4.3% of total time)
-----
DD01 = 024DD01 Stub S R
DD02 = 024DD02 Wood FabPer O/R
-----
CU Note: 100% of nominal share scheduled.
-----
CU01 = CU01 Ball E/G O
The PI should contact me and the APO staff ASAP about the
logistics and other considerations re bringing such a
large group to APO.
CU02 = CU02 Elli D R
CU03 = CU03 Rose G R
TAC suggestion of one full Dec night is inconsistent with
schedule constraints described in the proposal and was
ignored.
CU04 = CU04 Wilk E O
TAC suggestion of second half nights is inconsistent with
position of 2 of the 3 targets listed in the proposal and
was ignored.
CU05 = CU05 Snow E R
-----
JHU Note: 100% of nominal share scheduled.
-----
JH01 = JH01 Glaz E O
TOO program; no time scheduled.
JH02.G = JH02 Zhen G/S R
How SPICam and GRIM will be used "in combination"; please
inform APO staff *well in advance* which instrument should
be mounted at the beginning of the night and if there is
any plan to switch during the night.
JH02.D = JH02 Zhen D R (medium)
JH03 = JH03 Uomo D O
JH04 = JH04 Ande S O
JH05 = JH05 McCa E R
Scheduling requests seems self-contradictory, perhaps
because two half nights were requested but only one was
assigned by the TAC.
-----
NMSU Note: 100% of nominal share scheduled.
-----
NM01 = NM01 Chan AOTF O
NM02 = NM02 Krze E O
NM03 = NM03 Helm S O
NM04 = NM04 Walt S/D O (MedB-HighR, MedR)
NM05 = NM05 Moor D R (LowB-MedR)
NM06 = NM06 Nitt D O (???)
Grating specified as "mid"; does that mean medium?
-----
PU Note: 100% of nominal share scheduled.
-----
PU01 = PU01 Pind D R (low)
PU02.S = PU02 Bowe S R
PU02.D = PU02 Bowe D R (low)
PU03 = PU03 Stra D R (high)
PU04 = PU04 Turn S O
PU05 = PU05 Loh S R
PU06 = PU06 Blak S R
PU08 = PU08 Stra S R
-----
UC Note: 100% of nominal share scheduled.
-----
UC01 = ARC 401 York E/S R
UC02 = ARC 400 Lamb D/E R (medium)
TOO program; no time scheduled.
UC03 = ARC 404 Hobb E R
UC04 = ARC 406 York FabPer O/R
UC05 = ARC 403 Frie D R (setup-1)
UC06 = ARC 405 Wolf G R
UC07 = Adl York S/G/D/E R
Adler Planetarium twilight program (not accounted to UC).
Use instrument mounted for the night's first program.
-----
UW Note: 100% of nominal share scheduled; however, UW08 received
one less half night than allocated and UW02 received one
additional half night of flexibility time.
-----
UW01 = UW01 Hawl D R (high)
UW02 = UW02 Dalc D R (HighB)
Scheduling constraints are not directly applicable due to
TAC assigned less than requested. Can't split 4 half nights
into blocks of 3.
UW03 = UW03 Wall E O
UW04 = UW04 Mikn S R
UW05 = UW05 Laws E R
UW06 = UW06 Szko D R (high)
UW07 = UW07 Ande D R (low)
One half night of assigned gray time scheduled in marginally
bright time due to priority; if not usable as scheduled,
please declare OPEN ASAP.
UW08 = UW08 Hawl D R (MedR)
Only one of the two half nights scheduled because the other
was not available at this priority and given specified
schedule constraints.
UW09 = UW09 Lutz E R
UW10 = UW10 Wall E R

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
MOST PROGRAMS ARE SCHEDULED IN HALF NIGHT BLOCKS. THE FIRST HALF OF
EACH NIGHT EXTENDS FROM -12 DEGREE EVENING TWILIGHT UNTIL 0000 MST
OR 0100 MDT. THE SECOND HALF FOLLOWS UNTIL -12 DEGREE MORNING
TWILIGHT.
FIRST HALF IS INDICATED BELOW AS "A"; THE SECOND, AS "B".
THIS QUARTER NO PROGRAMS USE NON-BLOCK SCHEDULING EXCEPT FOR THE
ADLER TWILIGHT TIME.
INSTRUMENT CHANGE TIMES ARE NOT INCLUDED BELOW BUT WILL BE INDICATED
IN THE SCHEDULE ISSUED FROM APO AND WILL BE SHARED BETWEEN ADJOINING
PROGRAMS AS USUAL.
