REVISED ARC 3.5M SCHEDULE FOR 2ND QUARTER 2002
E. TURNER 5/28/02
NOTES: ***PLEASE READ***
5/28/02 NOTE - OPEN and DD time in June is assigned to JH02 and
DD04 (Strauss, PI), respectively. In addition, UC05 has been
inserted into the schedule as a TOO program in response to an
AGN undergoing a TeV flare. Programs losing time to UC05 are
UC01, PU02, PU03, CU03, UW07 and NM03. Some DD time remains
available during the first halves of June 28 and 30. Please send
requests for this time ASAP.
3/21/02 NOTE - The only chages affect PU05 & PU07, UW06 & UW09
and a new program, DD03. Note that the changes for the PU
programs affect the next two nights in the first half, 4/22 and
4/23.
Except in cases where strong science drivers dictate otherwise
(a minority of cases), observing time has again been scheduled
in half night blocks.
Scheduled engineering time for this quarter consists of 6 nights
of routine maintenance (EN01) or 6.6% of the total available time.
In addition to scheduled engineering time, science observations
may be pre-empted, sometimes on short notice, for urgent
engineering tasks. Such tasks include both work that is required
to safeguard observatory personnel or facilities and that allows
"hot pursuit" of some significant problem.
Note that no grating selections have been listed for DIS2 programs
because the new detectors make most of the old configurations
unlikely choices (non-optimal). An attempt to converge on some new
standard configurations is underway. Stay tuned! And please make
sure to communicate with your OS well in advance about DIS2 grating
your grating configuration requests.
DD01 is a set aside of 5 half nights (1B/2G/2D) of observing time
for rapid follow-up of targets identified by the SDSS or for other
quick response target-of-opportunity programs. These nights may
be used to "compensate" regularly scheduled programs that are
displaced by TOO programs etc.
There are 3 half nights of OPEN dark time in the current schedule.
Please send me requests *via* your institutional scheduler asap.
These five half nights are in a single block in mid-June, the second
halves of 6/13-15, inclusive.
Please see links off of the APO home page (http://www.apo.nmsu.edu/)
for a web based interactive version of this schedule.

MOST PROGRAMS ARE SCHEDULED IN HALF NIGHT BLOCKS. THE FIRST HALF OF
EACH NIGHT EXTENDS FROM -12 DEGREE EVENING TWILIGHT UNTIL 0000 MST
OR 0100 MDT. THE SECOND HALF FOLLOWS UNTIL -12 DEGREE MORNING
TWILIGHT.
FIRST HALF IS INDICATED BELOW AS "A"; THE SECOND, AS "B".
THIS QUARTER TWO DIFFERENT PROGRAMS USE NON-BLOCK SCHEDULING.
THESE PROGRAMS ARE INDICATED IN PARENTHESES () ON THE SCHEDULE
AND THEIR TIME ALLOTMENTS ARE LISTED HERE:
PU03 = 30 MIN EACH TIME SCHEDULED.
UC06 = FROM SUNSET UNTIL -12 DEGREE EVENING TWILIGHT EACH TIME
SCHEDULED.
INSTRUMENT CHANGE TIMES ARE NOT INCLUDED BELOW BUT WILL BE INDICATED
IN THE SCHEDULE ISSUED FROM APO AND WILL BE SHARED BETWEEN ADJOINING
PROGRAMS AS USUAL.
