This note is particularly intended for echelle observers. Others may not be affected. The official version of Remark is still 2.62, as announced every time you open a Remark connection. A more recent version of Remark, 2.75, is available, and includes several tempting features for echelle observers such as autoguiding. However, we have discovered some bugs with this version and it will NOT be made official until those bugs have been fixed in a later version (which may be more than a month from now, due to unavailability of the programmer). Any echelle observer who chooses to run version 2.75 rather than 2.62 should be aware that time lost due to bugs in the newer version will not be accounted to equipment failure; it is the observer's choice whether or not to take this risk. Version 2.62 is not entirely innocent of problems either; it's simply that the problems with that version are better known and so more easily avoided. Those observers who have loaded version 2.75 onto your observing Macs, please ensure that 2.62 is also available for anyone who doesn't wish to try the experimental version. I'd also like to note that, in addition to the bugs, the autoguiding algorithms are not fully tested yet. I would welcome comments from any observer who does choose to try out the autoguiding as to whether it is really any better than guiding by hand. If you're going to try the newer Remark version anyway, please help us to find and work out its shortcomings. For instruments other than the echelle, there is no difference between version 2.62 and 2.75. Russet.
