Due to unavailability of observers, UC has declared three half nights OPEN in the near future: Saturday, 7/29 second half; Sunday, 7/30 first half; Monday, 7/31 first half. These are all dark time, and although they immediately follow the scheduled end of the shutdown, there appears to be relatively little risk of extension of the shutdown as telescope re-commissioning on the sky is already well advanced. Of course, we are in the monsoon season, so the weather risk is elevated. Anyone wishing to use this time should notify me AND Bruce Gillespie at APO ASAP. Preference will be given to already established and TAC reviewed programs; however, other programs will be considered. If you wish to propose a new program, please fill out a scheduling request on the standard ASCII template including a description of the program and send it as your request. If you are requesting additional time for an already scheduled 3Q program, please identify it using the schedule program number (e.g., UC04) in your request. In view of the short notice and in order to streamline the process, this time will be "charged" as DD time, not to the institution; thus there is no need to consult your TAC or scheduler in advance. As I will be traveling tomorrow (Friday), response to requests may not appear until Friday evening or Saturday morning. Please be sure to include good/current contact info for the principle observer(s) with any requests.
