On-sky engineering with the 3.5m during the past two nights
has progressed rapidly and successfully. Scheduled science
operations will resume at the beginning of the night tonight
(17 December). There are no known problems or technical
issues that would affect normal operations, but since it has
been more than 4 months since the last night of science
observations (on 8 August) and since there have been numerous
hardware and software changes and upgrades, some glitches
or unexpected behavior would not be surprising. Observers
should be appropriately alert and prepared.
