Due to mechanical problems with the azimuth drives which render it very
difficult to effectively use the telescope and which might be causing
further damage, the 3.5m will be closed on the nights July 29-31, 1995
(civil time; July 30-Aug 1 UT) for repairs. In other words, operations
will not resume before Aug 1 (Aug 2 UT). There is a good possibility that
a longer closure will be required; this will be announced as more information
becomes available.
