The engineering shutdown of the APO 3.5-meter will continue at
least through the night of 24 September, i.e., scheduled
science operations might resume on the night of 25 September.
This further extension of the shutdown is required due to
the necessity of an additional (3rd) aluminization of the
new secondary and due to the discovery of a possible problem
with the primary mirror's support system. A good coating
of the new secondary has now been achieved. Further information
on the latter topic is contained in a subsequent message.

I am attempting to include the PIs and observers for affected
programs in the distribution of this message, but the help
of institutional schedulers and User Committee members in
making sure that all the relevant people are informed would
be appreciated.
