Very brief engineering observations were made last night (8/3) between
thunderstorms with quite encouraging results. Unfortunately, the sky did
not clear long enough for the minimum necessary work needed to put the
telescope back on line. Thus, JH01 and PU01 are canceled for tonight (8/4).
Tomorrow night (8/5) is scheduled for EN time anyway, so the earliest
resumption of science operations would be the night of 8/6.

Note that the programs which have been canceled due to extention of the
shutdown have not actually lost any usable observing time; in other words,
they would have lost their time to weather in any case. Unfortuantely, the
weather pattern appears fairly stable, and the forecast for the coming days
is about the same as it has been for some time. If no unexpected problems
are uncovered during the engineering observations which will be carried
out as weather permits, approximately one half night of clear time will
be required before science operations are resumed.
