The current 3.5-meter shutdown will be extended through the nights of 1 and 2
August (civil time), and the night of 3 August should be considered in serious
doubt. A final determination for 3 August will be made on Monday.

The primary reason for the extension is bad weather. It has not been possible
to exercise the telescopes and instruments on the sky since completion of the
shutdown engineering work. Moreover, the forecast is not encouraging for at
least the next 48 hours. We are seeing serious monsoon pattern weather.

In addition, GRIM2 and SPIcam have not awoken from their long "sleeps" in
normal states. Efforts to understand and fix these problems are in progress.
A lightning strike at the site last night has not helped matters either.
