Summer Observing Specialist position at APO

APO is looking to hire a temporary full-time Observing Specialist for the
3.5-m telescope this coming summer, nominally June through August but the
exact dates are negotiable. Qualifications and duties are essentially as
described on the APO "Employment Opportunities" web page.

The job is basically to fill in for one of our Observing Specialist who
will be on summer leave. After a couple of weeks of training, you would be
expected to "solo" at the telescope and support telescope operations 7
continuous nights every three weeks, plus 5 day-support shifts. Prior
experience working with the 3.5-m telescope is desirable.

The position offers a good salary w/ benefits, travel expenses, and on-site
dormitory accommodations. Research and engineering opportunities are
provided through "service observing" programs and participation in
engineering tests and observatory enhancement programs.

If interested, contact Bruce Gillespie.
