In response to a recent plea in a 3.5m night log: >It would be very useful if there were a Java-based applet to display >the current guider image, centroiding results, and few small plots of >recent guiding corrections to observers (whether remote or on-site). >I'm thinking something similar to the experimental cloud camera >interface of this sort. Such an application does already exist and is undergoing testing here at UW. A single X window displays the latest IR sky camera image, IR satellite image, and guider image, along with plots of guider performance (centroid relative to desired position, X & Y FWHM, relative guide star intensity, exposure time, subfield position, etc.). It is not a Java applet as I found the cloud camera applet a pain to write. Rather, it uses IDL to paint a single, large (1000x600 pixel) X window. At the moment, we have a dedicated screen in the APO control room here at UW to display this information. If someone at a remote site plans on using the guider extensively and wants to try to have this window displayed remotely to an X screen in your control room, contact me that afternoon, and I can try to set this up, time permitting. Should these experiments prove successful, it may be possible for other sites to utilize this feature on a regular basis. However, for the moment, I'm just looking for a few volunteers for evaluation purposes.
