Greetings to all.
As has been often discussed, the issue of network connectivity
to Apache Point is of great importance to both the 3.5m and
Sloan Survey science.
An impediment to making significant headway has been the
lack of a forum to discuss these issues. We have an
opportunity coming up, namely the SDSS meeting here in
Seattle in March.
I propose we make a serious attempt to gather scientists and
network gurus from the various ARC institutions for
a meeting here on March 25, the day after the SDSS
meeting finishes. THe objective would be to put together
a coherent strategy for approaching NSF and DOE for
vBNS/ESnet tie-ins between the site and the relevant
institutions.
Sorry for the late notice...but in we really should try to
capitalize on the gathering here, ideally supplemented by
network managers from the ARC schools.
Action item: could relevant/interested parties contact me
regarding whether they could make the march 25 meeting?
thanks
Chris Stubbs
