Subject: read noise of the red chip

A histogram of the overscan region of a bias frame of the
red chip still shows a bimodal distribution.  The read
noise was 25 ADU (about 49 electrons), Aug 17, 1998.

Night logs from Aug 15, Aug 14, and Aug 12 also mention
high read noise levels with double and triple peaks in
the histograms.
