Title:    Core Collapse Supernova Hydrodynamics
Abstract:
The explosion mechanism of core-collapse supernovae remains an unsolved problem. Observational and theoretical evidence suggests that this mechanism is intrinsically asymmetric. Hydrodynamic instabilities associated with the stalled supernova shock have received great attention over the last decade, yet our understanding of their effect on the explosion mechanism is far from complete. I'll discuss parametric numerical simulations that provide insight into (1) hydrodynamic processes that mediate the onset of explosion, and (2) instabilities that can spin-up the neutron star and generate explosion asymmetries.
