Microwave Dust Maps - HEALPIX

Retrieve Data

About HEALPIX:

The Hierarchical Equal Area isoLatitude Pixelization of the sphere (known as HEALPIX ) was developed and implemented by Krzysztof M. Górski, Eric Hivon, and Ben Wandelt at the Theoretical Astrophysics Center in Copenhagen.

For convenience, we are providing the SFD 100 micron map and R map in HEALPIX at various resolutions. Before downloading these maps, please be aware of the strengths and weaknesses of this pixelization. Click here for caveats.

HEALPIX Projections:

There are two full-sky maps, each stored as a single file. The bitmask map is not given in HEALPIX. Each HEALPIX sphere contains 12 Nside2 pixels, where Nside is the often a power of 2 for convenience. We provide Nside = 256, 512, and 1024 maps. The following maps are available individually:

Map File names Description Download individual files
I100 SFD_i100_healpix*.fits 100-micron [MJy/Sr] 256 512 1024
R FINK_Rmap_healpix*.fits DIRBE Ratio 256 512 1024

We do not provide gzipped tar files for these maps, because you only need two of them, and they do not compress well.

You may obtain any of these files via anonymous ftp. To obtain the 512 maps:
ftp deep.berkeley.edu
login as anonymous
cd pub/dust/maps/healpix
bin (to set transfer type binary)
prompt off
mget *512*.fits
quit

Software

We intend to provide IDL codes to augment the software that comes with the HEALPIX package. Users not already familiar with HEALPIX should visit the HEALPIX homepage here.
