The following photographs show the lava at Lae`apuki from the Pu`u `O`o vent of the Kilauea volcano. The lava is entering the sea, producing large quantities of steam and pumice stones which can be seen floating nearby. All the photographs shown here were taken on the afternoon or evening of Monday 17 January 2000.

More information about the Kilauea volcano can be found at the excellent USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory web page. The Jan 2000 Eruption Update contains information and images of the eruption around the time these photographs were taken.
