Taking NJ Transit to Princeton

Princeton lies about 4 miles west of the Northeast Corridor Line. Its station, Princeton Junction, is served by both Amtrak (infrequently) and by the commuter line, NJ Transit, which runs between Trenton and New York. You must change trains at Princeton Junction and catch the two-car shuttle train (the "Dinky") just off the southbound platform, as detailed below, or else catch a cab. The NJ Transit website has point-to-point train schedules and PDF format schedules, including the schedule for the Dinky.

From Princeton Junction to Princeton
When you arrive at Princeton Junction, you need to catch the "Dinky" (a small, 2 car train) to the Princeton station on the western edge of campus. The Dinky meets most trains, but not all, and shuts down at approximately 12:45 AM weekdays and 12:15 AM weekends. From the Princeton station it is a five-minute walk east to the dorms (walk through the Tennis Pavilion towards Fine Tower), or a 10-minute walk north to the Nassau Inn. If you wish to catch a cab, they are more often found at the Princeton Junction station than at the Princeton station.

From New York Penn Station to Princeton Junction
Princeton Junction is 60-70 minutes by train from New York's Penn Station. There are no nearby stations to the north, so if you haven't stopped at a station in ten minutes, Princeton Junction is probably the next stop.

From Newark Int'l Airport (EWR) to Princeton Junction
From your terminal in EWR, take the free AirTrain monorail to the Newark Airport Rail Link station, then transfer to a southbound NJ Transit Northeast Corridor train. You can buy a one-way NJ Transit ticket in the terminal or at the Rail Link Station, using cash, credit or debit. Remember to buy a ticket to Princeton, not just to Princeton Junction, unless you plan on taking a cab from Princeton Junction.

Princeton Junction is 40-50 minutes by train from EWR. There are no nearby stations to the north, so if you haven't stopped at a station in ten minutes, Princeton Junction is probably the next stop.

From Trenton to Princeton Junction
Princeton Junction is the second stop north from Trenton, about a 10 minute trip. In Princeton Junction, you will need to cross under the tracks to reach the Dinky.
