ABSTRACT

The Build-up of Stellar Mass

An outline will be presented of the current observational status of when and how -- bursty vs. steady -- the steallar mass in the universe has been built up to the present epoch. Particular emphasis will be given on direct mass estimates (rather than star-formation rate estimates), and on the impact of newly available infrared data from the VLT and the Spitzer Telescope.
