Application for Graduate School in Astrophysics

Admission to graduate school takes place once per year, with a deadline of December 31.  The application is entirely on line.

All applications for graduate study in all subjects are made to the Graduate School

http://gradschool.princeton.edu/admission

Your application consists of:

-the application form, filled out on line
-your academic transcript(s)
-your general and subject (usually physics) GRE test results
-where relevant, your TOEFL results
-your personal statement
-three letters of recommendation from your referees
-any other supporting material which you wish to submit, such  as published research papers
-the application fee

The graduate school processes the applications, sorts them by department, and then sends us our applications to be reviewed.

Transcripts must be submitted directly by the college or university, test results must be submitted directly by the testing agency (ETS),
and letters of recommendation must be submitted directly by the referees.

There are no "cutoffs" on grades, GREs etc that would cause an application not to be considered.  All applications will be read completely,
thoroughly and carefully.

When you are filling out the application form, you will be asked to name the department to which you are applying.  This year for the first time
you will be able to indicate an interest in more than one department.  Astrophysics is "clustered" with physics and plasma physics, since these
subjects have a lot in common.  So if you apply to astrophysics but are also interested in physics, you can say so on the application.

Thank you for your interest.  We look forward to receiving your application and wish you the best for your applications to graduate school this year.
Please don't hesitate to write to the director of graduate studies with any other questions you have.
