All:

Here's an off-the-cuff list of 3.5-m things that happened in the past month
or so.

        o GRIM2 had a power supply problem, took about a week to fix it, DIS and
          DSC running pretty normally;

        o 3.5-m telescope operations fairly routine, pointing and image quality
          better than average over the past month or so;

        o Monsoons over, have had pretty normal fall weather of clear skies;

        o Jon Brinkmann back from Princeton, Steve Knapp (who was helping fill
          in for Jon) is leaving shortly to go back to his job in California;

        o Eddie Bergeron left about a month ago, interviewed several candidates
          and offer finally made to and accepted by new Observing Specialist
          yesterday, will start first week of Nov;

        o Three-year plan (edited by Alan Uomoto) has been discussed with Board,
          decisions will be taken at Nov's Board of Governors meeting;

        o Chris Stubb's new prototype 2k^2 imager (SPIcam) on site for
first shake-down
          runs.  First results promising;

        o Internet performance degrading, looking into alternatives. Modem SLIP
          has been shown to work very well;

        o SDSS-related installation activities have increased considerably,
a lot of
          people and work going on at the site.
