Weather--last two months have been wettest in decades, monsoon clouds and
rain wiped out many observing programs. Forest fire risk recently set to
"Low." Yesterday marked return to fall weather patterns, we expect mostly
clear nights through onset of winter storms in late October, early
November.

Steve Knapp finished construction of 3 arcsecond reflective slit for DIS,
Jim Fowler fixed DIS slit camera system (damaged by lightning?)

Eddie Bergeron resigned, has returned to ST ScI. Interviewing candidates
for observing specialist open positions (see posting on our www server).

Installation of new guider camera TBD, sometime this fall.

Planning December shutdown:

o enclosure wheels replacement (Jon Davis)
o aluminize primary (and 2ndary plus tertiary, TBD) (Mark Klaene)
o install new primary support servo to fix oscillations (Jon Davis)
o fix DIS noise problem (Jon Brinkmann, plus JHU help)
o remote control for primary mirror covers (TBD, w/ JHU help)
