Due to strenuous efforts of the APO engineering staff, the repair of the
3.5m's damaged az drives is proceeding on a fast track. At the moment it
appears that there is a reasonably good chance that science operations can
resume on Wednesday night, Dec 11 (UW04 and UW05), and some small chance
that it could be as early as Monday night, Dec 9 (PU05 and NM06). Tuesday
night, Dec 10 (UC05), is obviously an intermediate possibility. Some
on-sky engineering will be required before the telescope is returned to
science ops, so the weather is among the uncertainties in forecasting the
above dates.

Institutional Schedulers and UC Reps, please make sure the affected PI's
at your institutions (for the programs listed above) are aware that they
should be monitoring the situation.
