PRELIMINARY ARC 3.5M SCHEDULE FOR 2ND QUARTER 2002 E. TURNER 3/18/02 NOTES: ***PLEASE READ*** Except in cases where strong science drivers dictate otherwise (a minority of cases), observing time has again been scheduled in half night blocks. Scheduled engineering time for this quarter consists of 6 nights of routine maintenance (EN01) or 6.6% of the total available time. In addition to scheduled engineering time, science observations may be pre-empted, sometimes on short notice, for urgent engineering tasks. Such tasks include both work that is required to safeguard observatory personnel or facilities and that allows "hot pursuit" of some significant problem. Note that no grating selections have been listed for DIS2 programs because the new detectors make most of the old configurations unlikely choices (non-optimal). An attempt to converge on some new standard configurations is underway. Stay tuned! And please make sure to communicate with your OS well in advance about DIS2 grating your grating configuration requests. DD01 is a set aside of 6 half nights (2B/2G/2D) of observing time for rapid follow-up of targets identified by the SDSS or for other quick response target-of-opportunity programs. These nights may be used to "compensate" regularly scheduled programs that are displaced by TOO programs etc. There are 3 half nights of OPEN dark time in the current schedule. Please send me requests *via* your institutional scheduler asap. These five half nights are in a single block in mid-June, the second halves of 6/13-15, inclusive. Please see links off of the APO home page (http://www.apo.nmsu.edu/) for a web based interactive version of this schedule. ----- EN Note: No science observations scheduled during EN time. ----- EN01 = EN01 Gill ? Although request states "no constraints time wise" in one place, it then proceeds to specify extensive, if somewhat unclear, constraints. Such small fragments are disruptive of other programs and very difficult to schedule at low priority. May be scheduled in revised versions after discussion of details with the APO staff and me. FIRST HALF IS INDICATED BELOW AS "A"; THE SECOND, AS "B". THIS QUARTER TWO DIFFERENT PROGRAMS USE NON-BLOCK SCHEDULING. THESE PROGRAMS ARE INDICATED IN PARENTHESES () ON THE SCHEDULE AND THEIR TIME ALLOTMENTS ARE LISTED HERE: PU03 = 30 MIN EACH TIME SCHEDULED. UC06 = FROM SUNSET UNTIL -12 DEGREE EVENING TWILIGHT EACH TIME SCHEDULED.
