Hello all,

Since the matter of no-shows has come up again recently, I'm trying
another new measure to minimize the problem, which comes up about once
a quarter.

It's important for us to have a home phone number for at least the PI
of each program. Office numbers aren't good enough, since you aren't
likely to be in your office at 2 am ET if you don't know you're
supposed to observe. Email has the same problem.

I have made this request before, but phone numbers are still not being
included in the contact information listed on the proposals. I
thought the reason for this might be that observers are reluctant to
have their home phone numbers posted on the web. So instead, I
propose to make a list that will be made available only to the
observing specialists, for use only in the event of a no-show. You
will not be awakened in the middle of the night unless there's a
reason for it.

If you have time in the upcoming quarter or if you are a frequent
observer, please mail me your home contact information, and I will
compile a list to be kept here in the control room. When the schedule
for next quarter is available, I plan to start pestering people who
did not either include adequate contact information or respond
privately to this message. You can avoid the rush by mailing me now.

					  Russet.
