PARTIAL PRELIMINARY APO 3.5M SCHEDULE FOR 4TH QUARTER 1998 E. TURNER 9/25/98 NOTES: ***PLEASE READ*** This is a partial version of the preliminary 4Q schedule covering only the first 12 nights of the quarter (10/1-12). I hope to have the preliminary schedule for all of 4Q out early next week. I apologize for the very late appearance of the 4Q schedule and for any inconveniences it may cause. The explanations are several other obligations over the last few weeks, an attempt to adjust the schedule for the possible installation of the Echelle in the November bright run (!), some last minute issues in the OS work schedule and, of course, my own sloth. ----- EN Note: No science observations scheduled during EN time. ----- EN01 = Periodic engineering time (Gillespie) EN02 = Maintenance shutdown (Gillespie) ----- NMSU Note: ----- NM04 = NM04 King D O (high) ----- PU Note: ----- PU01 = 984PU01 Turn S O Non-block scheduling. See note in BLOCK CAPS just before schedule below. [NOT THE CURRENT VERSION OF THE REQUEST TEMPLATE; SEE APO35-GENERAL MESSAGE #2898] ----- UC Note: ----- UC02 = 270 York D R (any) The discussion of observing schedule constraints in this request could be read as implying non-block scheduling, but it is not very clear and since half nights are also explicitly mentioned, this is what has been scheduled. Also, OS participation in data acquisition and/or reduction must be arranged and agreed on by all concerned well in advance; it cannot be simply welcomed/requested/assumed in the proposal. [NOT THE CURRENT VERSION OF THE REQUEST TEMPLATE; SEE APO35-GENERAL MESSAGE #289] UC08 = 268 Kron D R (low) ----- UW Note: ----- UW01 = UW01 Szko D R (high) TAC allocated 4 B half nights but the scientific constraints of coordinating with spacecraft observation of the targets requires assignment of 1 B, 2 G and 1 D half nights. The latter has been scheduled due to the high priority of the program, but this throws the overall UW request out of B/G/D balance. UW03 = UW03 Dalc G R Note that participation of a "certified" remote observer in all remote observations is required. See explanatory notes #2 and #3 in apo35-general message #289 for further info. A statement of how these constraints will be met should be sent to me with a copy to Bruce Gillespie. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ MOST PROGRAMS ARE SCHEDULED IN HALF NIGHT BLOCKS. THE FIRST HALF OF EACH NIGHT EXTENDS FROM EVENING TWILIGHT (SEE CALENDAR DISTRIBUTED BY GRETCHEN) UNTI10 MDT. FIRST HALF IS INDICATED BELOW AS "A"; THE SECOND HALF THEN EXTENDS UNTIL MORNING TWILIGHT AND IS INDICATED BELOW AS "B". DURING THIS PARTIAL QUARTER ONE PROGRAM USES NON-BLOCK SCHEDULING. THESE PROGRAMS ARE INDICATED IN PARENTHESES () ON THE SCHEDULE AND THEIR TIME ALLOTMENTS ARE LISTED HERE: PU01 = 50 MIN EACH TIME IT IS SCHEDULED. INSTRUMENT CHANGE TIMES ARE NOT INCLUDED BELOW BUT WILL BE INDICATED IN THE SCHEDULE ISSUED FROM APO BY GRETCHEN AND WILL BE SHARED BETWEEN ADJOINING PROGRAMS AS USUAL. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 10/1 A: EN01 B: EN01 10/2 A: (PU01)/UW03 B: UW03 10/3 A: UW03 B: UW03 10/4 A: (PU01)/UC02 B: UC02 10/5 A: (PU01)/UW03 B: UW01 10/6 A: EN02 B: EN02 10/7 A: EN02 B: EN02 10/8 A: EN02 B: EN02 10/9 A: EN02 B: UW03 10/10 A: (PU01)/NM04 B: NM04 10/11 A: NM04 B: NM04 10/12 A: (PU01)/NM04 B: UC08 APO APO APO APO APO Apache Point Observatory 3.5m APO APO APO APO APO This is message 307 in the apo35-general archive.
