Dear Colleagues, I am pleased to announce that the small search group appointed by the ARC Board of Governors at its Nov 2006 Annual Meeting (consisting of Suzanne Hawley, Richard Kron, Scott Tremaine and myself with support from Bruce Gillespie) to identify leadership for the AS2 ("After Sloan2") project has reached an agreement with Daniel Eisenstein (U Arizona) to serve as the AS2 Director-Designate, pending an official appointment by the Board itself. Daniel will assume these duties effective immediately (and, in fact, has already begun his activities as such). We are all very pleased that Daniel has accepted the position and are confident that the (proto-)project will now be able to move forward with new energy, effectiveness and direction as a result. I hope that all concerned with the success of AS2 will give Daniel the support and cooperation that he will be requesting. In addition, I can report that we expect to appoint a small Steering Committee (SC) which will provide management oversight and through which the AS2-Director will report to the Board. The SC will also work towards the formation of a more formal group, analogous to the Sloan Survey Advisory Councils, with which it will replace itself and will provide leadership in initial AS2 fund raising efforts.
