Hi,

  if anyone is interested, I wrote a simple program to allow graphical
control of the DIS lamps. From the visitor1 account on tycho, simply enter:
xlamps, and you'll get a "power strip" across the top of your screen with
boxes for each lamp. Each box will be red if lamp is off, green if on, and
clicking in the box will change the state of that lamp. Hitting Q in the
window will exit the program. It takes a few seconds for lamp status to
update. Using this does not preclude controlling the lamps using the lamps
command.
